Spearmint develops, owns, operates, and optimizes battery energy storage systems with the aim of reducing grid volatility, increasing system resiliency, and helping minimize carbon emissions in a responsible and efficient way.

What You Will Do

Spearmint Energy is seeking construction managers with varying levels of experience to support project design, construction, and commissioning activities for its energy storage and renewable generation projects. At Spearmint team members are responsible for executing the company's strategy and advancing projects and/or portfolios of projects in battery energy storage, solar, and wind. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and project management skills and have experience with the construction of renewable energy projects. This individual contributor role will report to the Senior Director of Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) or to the SVP of Project Execution as part of Spearmint’s development business unit.

Core Responsibilities
  • Support design and construction planning for the full project development lifecycle from site identification to financial close for multiple energy storage and, potentially, solar, and wind projects.
  • Support greenfield development by assessing fundamental site criteria from a construction perspective.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel and senior members of the development team to draft and review project contract documents and agreements.
  • Represent the company in meetings with designs firms, equipment suppliers, city and county agencies, and with EPC contractors.
  • Conduct high-level site diligence, select and manage consulting teams for detailed project review and the full EPC process.  Support the transmission/interconnection process including participation in coordination meetings and tracking requests for information (RFI).
  • Identify business opportunities, form relationships with potential counterparties.
  • Develop and execute activities consistent with the company’s brand objectives, work with internal and external engineering and construction teams to prepare cost estimates and schedules, identify constraints, and ensure safety requirements are met, and stay current with professional and industry best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies in health, safety, security, equity, ethics, and governance.

  • Possess skills in managing core responsibilities of construction project development independently or with limited oversight, including managing client interactions and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Natural Resources, or other relevant field, 0-3 years (Associate), 2-7 years (Manager), 5+ years (Director), or 10+ years (VP) of relevant experience, and at least 1 year of work or internship experience in a full-time professional office environment (remote work or internship experience preferred).
  • Ability to travel up to 20-30% of the time to project sites primarily in rural communities.
  • Advanced skills in MS Office, MS Project, and Outlook, and experience using Procore, ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and/or Google Earth preferred (Associate)

Physical requirements and environment:

The successful candidate will perform primarily sedentary office duties with travel to company offices or development & construction sites.  They may occasionally lift up to 25 pounds and may be required to sit, stand, walk and use a computer. Development site work may occasionally require significant amounts of time outdoors in undeveloped areas, at all times of year, in all weather conditions, and across all climatic regions with which the company conducts business. Successful candidates will occasionally be required to walk and/or stand for significant amounts of time over uneven terrain outdoors.  
Extensive air and car travel with driving to remote sites along with office work in field conditions is also included. Driving may require operating vehicles off-road in various conditions on development and/or construction sites. Some sites may require travel in small regional jet or prop airliners and stays at limited-service hotels.

The company’s offices follow traditional business hours however routinely employees conduct work outside of these hours due to meet the company’s objectives including communicating with contacts in other time zones, traveling, attending government and community meetings, and other circumstances.
